Greetings ~
Back in the late 1960s, I worked for two funeral homes in the Akron, Ohio area plus one in Pemberton, New Jersey. The hearses in all of these places were the standard Cadillac models. But there were others around such as Fords, Chevys, a Lincoln and even a Mercedes Benz. In New Castle, Pa., there was a funeral home that used simply a 1959 Chevrolet station wagon with curtains. Those were cool times. If a funeral business was small with not a lot of money, they used whatever they could. One place had a Cadillac limousine that was used for funerals and then the undertaker used it for his personal car on off-hours. I remember his wife driving it to take their kids to school and she drove it to the grocery store on Saturdays.
There was one funeral home that I remember that had a hearse I will never forget. The year was around 1968. They had the customary 1966 Cadillac hearse but also had a 1958 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a sidecar that had been customized to carry a casket. This was the very first "hearsecycle" I ever saw. And, it was the last one I saw for many years.
Today, it is normal to see one of these vehicles in a funeral home's fleet for those who wish a different type of funeral. Motorcycle lovers want to go to their final rest in style. This blog showcases many of these rigs in motorcycles and ever bicycles. One thing about modern times, nothing is too weird. And many enjoy crazy, even after death.
